DISTRIBUTION OF Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) (HOMOPTERA: ALEYRODIDAE) BIOTYPE B IN THE CENYTRAL ZONE AND PANAMA PROVINCE, REPUBLIC OF PANAMA. 2001.
Abstract
The distribution of Bemisia tabaci biotype B, in the provinces of Panama an Cocle, was presented and compared between the biotypes found in the provinces of Los Santos and Herrera. The fourth nymphal instar (pupa) was used to identify the white flies collected in the 57 hosts (cucurbits and solanaceous), during the dry season of the 2001 (January to March). The biotypes of B. tabaci, were easily distinguished by RAPD-PCR banding pattern. The individual analyses of the 156 insects (adult or nymphs) was considered 112 (71.8%) as biotype B. The biotype (B) was predominant over the indigenous biotype, mainly in cucurbits crops, and in some cases there was mixed biotypes (A y B) populations, on the same host.
